Limits

I think that people and nation should be able to understand their limits. The U.S. has reached it limit in Iraq. We can no longer hold to the fanciful thought that we can make Iraq a better place. We are foreigners, not only to the nation, but to the region and the culture. We have to enlist the aid of nations that can take some of the weight off our load. I am being repetitive, but we need a time table. Pulling out of Iraq is going to be a slow process, but we need to start now. To help ease this process we need to recruit the nations in the region who are familiar with the culture. Senator Bill Nelson visited Syria and plans on visiting other nations in the region to enlist support. I know that Syria is not the best nation, but the truth is we can't help Iraq and neither can any other nation in the "coalition". Syria can. If we only ask them to help secure their border not much trouble can come from that. I think that Senator Nelson did a good thing the executive branch won't do what needs to be done because of their pride. I know if we leave, but get other nations from the region to aid the legitimate govn't I think that is the best course to take right now. There are no really good options to consider. If we take a step back and do what is really in the best interest of Iraq, the situation will be a lot better than if we stay there. Many Americans feel that we need to stay, because thing we get horrible. In fact the situation is already too far gone. Iraq, really the entire Middle east needs to be stablized and we are not doing that. If we can teach those nations to work together without our help the entire region will be in much better condition.

Is the problem really "the nation and/or the people" or just ONE individual in the nation holding the rest of us hostage? We should have never been there!

I hate politics, and am not an avid follower.

I may be wrong, but when the US was rallying campaign to invade Iraq, not many nations support it or share its view.

Those that did, was more of economic reasons that believing its "campaigned view", I think.

So the occupation started, the tyrant was put to justice. Or was it to justify the safe-guard of oil in the middle-east region?

I am still confused and unconvinced of terrorism as being the reason.

The US now fights the war alone, and war with its own people to leave the occupied war-torn country.

It has to find its own solution fast before more people - the soldiers as well as the Iraq people, die.

I think we have to stay since we messed it all up. The ideal solution would have been to not go in the first place as this was a forseeable outcome.

Your comments are understandable, and reasonable. But the current administration and its backers have alienated so many in the world with its virtual unilateralism that getting international help when the cleanup is done will be difficult. It will be even more difficult to get the Syrians to agree since not too long ago US sabre-rattling had them lined up for the next invasion.

I plan on buying Carter's book on the Palestian situation. I've never read any of his books before, but I would like to read someone who dares to break the bubble. As for Iraq, it was a mistake from the get-go; as "future" says: we should have never been there. We didn't do it out of altruistic motives. Now McCain is calling for more troops. This is a cynical answer, but what will our staying do but piss more people off? Can we stop the civil war? Or do we act like the assholes we are and put in Saddam the second to repress the Shias, who want their rights? Maybe Iraq would be better off as 3 provinces: Shite, Sunni and Kurd. I just know whatever the right decision is, Bush will chose the wrong one.

We have to enlist the aid of nations that can take some of the weight off our load.

And what nations would you suggest we enlist the help of? Iran and Syria? You mean the same nations that were siphoning in terrorists to fight Americans? You can’t possibly mean the same nations that have condemned Israel and America and labeled us “infidels” (which is the same as being marked for death). You mean the same Iran that is developing “peaceful” nuclear power while at the same time testing a missile capable of hitting American and European model submarines?

If we only ask them to help secure their border not much trouble can come from that.

How about this, you go ask them if they will help us and get laughed off of their country’s negotiation tables. My solution: force’em. If we have assets in Syria, we should pull them if they refuse to secure their borders. I’m sure that we don’t have too many in Syria though, so I doubt this would work. I honestly think that if Syria could be controlled, it would be already. Any other hairbrained idea’s? Next…

If we can teach those nations to work together without our help the entire region will be in much better condition.

Jesus said the same thing before they crucified him. You’re preaching to the choir. That region is a bonified hot spot and it has been since the beginning of time. “Teachings” will go in one ear and out the other. You honestly expect them to hold hands and sing kumbayah just because we ASK them to? What we need to do is oust these state-sponsored terrorist thugs that control the governments and set up democratic elections so that we put someone in power that will represent the people of those country’s. But…that would take the cooperation of practically the entire world, we just can’t do it alone. We need to keep doing business with these country’s and buy their oil so that these country’s don’t become third world country’s BUT we need to make sure that the leaders don’t just pocket the money and let the people suffer like they are doing right now.

Do you honestly think that what you are saying hasn’t been tried before? It’s not as simple as “go in and ask for them to stop.” This is also why it is not possible for any “conspiracy” on the middle east to exist because in a country like America where you and I can disagree this much, just imagine what it’s like in congress.

I forgot; what exactly is "winning" in Iraq again?
