List

Every since 9/11 there has been the no fly list. On Sunday I watched 60 minutes and they were talking about the No fly list. There is nothing wrong with the no fly list in idea. A list on people who are suspected of terrorism(with legitimate reason) being prevented from flying, a but the govn't has allowed the list to become antiquated, and basically useless. Starting of my list of problem with the list is that there are dead people on the list. Nine on the 9/11 hijackers are on the list and Saddam Hussein. People who cause no serious threat are on the list the president of Bolivia is on the list along with a leader of one of our few allies in the Middle East. When the woman in charge on the list was question she simply answer we already knew the list is outdated. Well Duh! She honestly had no idea that some of these people were on the list. It was later revealed that different govn't agencies just gave random list they have to fill out the No fly list. How safe does that make you feel that a list used to protect us is allowed to become so dilapidated. This administration is so concerened with terrorism yet they can't keep up a list like. To make it worse the real bad terrorist that the govn't is after are not put on the list at all. So that they won't know that they are being looked for. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the list My second problem is the fact that it is No "fly list" why not a No Travel list or to accompany the No fly list a No sail list. What it boils down to me is this is a list to appease the public. Let's face facts terrorist are not stupid. If you pulled off the biggest bank heist and got away with 500,000 dollar clean would you do the exact same thing again. Terrorist will do many things to achieve there goal they are not limited to using planes. That is why I believe in a No Travel list to prevent them from getting in and out of the countries they work in.

I agree. It is laughable. I get in more trouble at the airport with my son while some possible terrorist strolls on by.

that sound you hear is millions of dollars in taxpayer's money being sucked into the black useless hole that is homeland security. my personal thought is that a national security agency (huh. look at that we have one) is ok to have- but homeland security was started to funnel money to the neo con's coffers. what do we need the NSA, the CIA, the FBI-- and homeland security for?

The no-fly list isn't there to stop terrorist. Neither is the "beefed-up security" at airports. The purpose of these things is to convince the public that officials are responding to the terrorist threat.

There was the flap a few years ago when Senator Ted Kennedy was briefly put on the no-fly list and restricted from flying. This is something that really ought to outline the dangers of such a list. Environmentalists, and other leftists have also found their names on the list, even though they advocate non-violence. So most likely, there is some political chicanery in the formation of that list.

I think it might also have a chilling effect on travel. Before there was a no-fly list, there was a search list. A former student of mine happened to have a similar name (not the same name but similar--then again, all middle eastern names might look and sound the same to airport security personnel with no college education working for hourly wages). They would rip open her bags in hopes of finding secret compartments. It came to the point where she said "That's it. I ain't flying. I'm just losing luggage."

I didn't forget about your blog, sweetie, I just didn't know what to say to this subject. How about this:

No-fly lists are ridiculous. If they can't be used the right way they should be abolished. They only seem to "catch" the wrong people and inconvenience everyone else. I read a story a while back about how they wouldn't let a baby fly because he had the same name as a suspected terrorist. How stupid is that? Anyhow, I think a lot of terrorists are unknown young people, or else they have the connections to make up papers with fake names so they won't be on that list.

Airport security judges people based on appearance a lot of the time, which gives guards a lot of opportunity to abuse their power based on personal prejudices. A fellow blogger, FuzzyLogic, who is of Indian descent, was recently questioned at an airport because a security guard thought it was suspicious for her to check her baby's diaper for ...well... you know, baby mess. I've heard complaints of security guards searching pretty women just to get their cheap thrills, while other people walk right through with knives that go unnoticed. By the way, did you know that orthopedic gel shoe insoles may not be brought onto a plane, but a gel-filled bra can? That's right, the little old man with aching feet is out of luck, but the bimbo with big fake boobs can walk right in.

The whole airport security thing is a load of bull that has only made service go from bad to worse. I used to like to fly, but the way things are now, I won't fly any more if I can help it.

Just another scare tactic that is a ruse IMO. All airport security has managed to accomplish is making harder for us to travel.
