Expectations

Lately Sen. Obama has been on a whirlwind tour of the world. The Senator has been telling of all of what he plans to do once and if he is elected President. The media has also been hyping it up as well. What the main problem that I have with this is that Senator Obama and the media are pumping up what he will do if elected. So even if he does and excellent job if elected he might still be seen as a failure. As a people Americans are very biased against "Flip Floppers" they are themselves the most prime example of a Flip flopper. Americans will turn against a politician at the slightest possibility of a problem. So if on a scale of 10 he performs at an 8 his approval rating will plummet. People don't realize that the executive branch is only 1/3 of the govn't. Yes I disagree with president Bush on almost everything that he did during his presidency, I am also aware that it is not 100% his fault. President Bush has become the point of blame for all the ills of this nation. I often hear people say they hate Bush and this is all his fault and if it weren't for him everything would be okay. Some of the things honestly weren't his fault, but he still could have handled the situations a lot better. What I am saying basically is that is President Bush is this bashed where he had a conservative congress for half of his administration to boot most of the country leans conservative. What chance does a Democratic President have whom has set the bar extremely high?

I agree the US sems to be moving more towards the Republicans over time, or HAS been.

But maybe Obama being elected might mark a sea change, much as Roosevelt's election in 1932 did.

In my view, the Obama presidency will either break the mould- perhaps changing Us politics forever, or it will fail and the drift towards a neo-con elected dictatorship wll be assured.

I am one of those who blame Bush for nearly everything, because the other two branches has laid down, and played lap dog for him at his every request. Therefore, it's Bush's programs that were put into effect, it's Bush's fault.

Obama reminds me of a football preppy out of High School, telling what records he's going to set in the Pro's.

Saying what you are going to get done in a job you've never held, is not only dangerous from a political view, it's stupid from a common sense view. I'm of the school "Don't tell me what you're gonna do - " Show me what you've DONE!

Obama has promised such a wide degree of social change and reformation that everyone realizes how slim his chances are of accomplishing such a monumental set of tasks.

One man simply is not as powerful as he wants us to believe him to be.

In four years he can only suggest so much to the congress and hope they'll respond to his suggestions. In the end he can only sign the bills they send to him, not the reverse. Our president is as much a figurehead in our political system as the queen is in England.

Obama is losing this election because he is spending far to much time addressing college park and ignoring trailer park. He is speaking above the heads of far to many people and his lofty goals appear elitist.

John McCain is beginning to hit his stride, Obama peaked long ago and has never clenched the deal... He is going to lose this election land the media is beginning to figure it out too. he has lost his luster.

On the other hand, no one can screw up more thoroughly, and on so many fronts as the current administration. A brain-dead skunk would seem an improvement.

The country is definitely far to the right as compared to when I was your age, and it took lots of effort to put it there. I also agree that expectations for Obama might be so unusually high as to almost ensure failure--i.e., no one could be that good.

I also agree that the public is rather fickle, always going for style over substance. So, perhaps we always get what we deserve--unless you're talking about voting machine fraud, or something like that.

My husband would say what X just did--we get what we deserve, although I don't think X means it the way my husband does--he is just so angry and feels so betrayed. I just read an article in Rolling Stone by Michael Moore on how Obama can follow in the footsteps of the last 2 Democratic candidates and get us four more years of McSame. It is funny, but also true. I still think Obama has a good chance, but he should be trouncing McCain by now instead of fighting him in the polls.

I also hate Bush and I DO blame him for EVERYTHING--I don't care if he was playing golf when Cheney decided to invade Iraq; Bush is the damn president and he inherits the responsibility. I also blame him for creating an atmosphere of fear in Congress so that Democrats who knew better (Clinton, Kerry) voted for that stupid war, then pretended they didn't. Bush made it so you couldn't say anything remotely critical or else you'd be strung up by the flag and left to hang.
