Menace

*First off I would like to make a correction no one died in the Jena incident. I received bad info

North Korea is testing more weapons. N. Korea is going to be a real threat I watch a lot of of Sci-fi and drama shows and one thing that they have in common is that close to the end of the season things begin to build up until the climactic season finale. I am afraid we are reaching the end of our season an old enemy returns and is gaining strength(N. Korea). The main characters are getting a new leader(U.S.'s election is coming). The main enemy's devious plot was foiled leading into their next big attack(London terror attacks). At the end of the season it will all come together. Now that was just a little fun I was having with the current situation, but the truth is that N. Korea is a real threat. It seems to me that no one else seems to care very much unless it is on CNN or Fox News. We as a people need to start prioritizing what we need to do. Iraq is too far gone and we are in too deep to just pull all out now. We do need a gradual pull out of Iraq and start dealing with N. Korea. I am not saying we do what we did in Iraq, because we all know how that went, but North Korea is a real problem that the U.S. and other nations need to address. We need to address them soon before the Season end with us caught by surprise.

Hmmm. If Korea is a threat, then they have become a threat because of US foreign policies, in particular the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. It was only after that the N. Koreans violated their treaty (in full view of US monitoring cameras) and began to work on their version of the bomb.

While the US press has depicted Korean leaders as mentally unstable or two f-ing backwards to wield nuclear arms responsibly, from the N. Koreans' point of view, one can certainly understand their decision. Everyone knew, including most Americans and the CIA, that Iraq didn't have weapons of mass destruction. That allowed the US to pretty much go into a defenseless nation and win a number of early, decisive victories. In other words, the administration only took that kind of bold move because they were virtually assured that such arms did not exist there.

For the N. Koreans, the meaning becomes clear. True, there have been border skrimishes between India and Pakistan. But I can't think of a nuclear country that's been out-and-out raided, militarily.

If a foreign country declared the US an "axis of evil," and invaded other countries designated as such because they didn't have nukes, do you think that they would take a chance on raiding the US?

"But they're madmen!!!!" some might say. Okay. Whatever. Truth is, mad or not, sane or not, I wouldn't have expected N. Korea to behave any differently in response to US aggression.

Whether the N. Koreans are mad or not, there is a political logic to the development of nuclear arms.

I can't top X-Dell's comment. I actually wonder if it is madness or pragmatism. I don't see why we can own nuclear weapons with a fool of a president and other countries can't have their own with their fools running the country. It seems to be in accordance with natural rights.

By the way, I did a blog on theocracy--I missed the last one. I would love to know what you think as you did a fine one yourself!

x dell beat me to the punch. korea was willing to work with america when clinton left office. that admin had them talked into diplomatic talks and south korea was helping and it looked promising. in came the cowboy with his threats and name calling- and voila`- the cold war reignited. not just with korea but now russia. fantastic.
