Presidential

On my return post I want to talk about the upcoming presidential election. A lot of people have thrown their hats into the ring, but among these people who has what it takes to not only get elected, but also be a successful president? This blog endorses Sen. Obama, but I am first to admit the flaws in his campaign. Sen. Obama is a freshman senator, he is black, he is also the flavor of the month. Maybe less so now. The democrats have Clinton, another big name, but also has draw backs. These include being the first lady of President Clinton, A woman, extreme, she seems fake(at least to me), and neither party really trust her. Other than that the dems do not have a strong candidates. Not to say that they are all bad just can they get elected. That is the real concern now. On the other hand the reps do not have any big names. Rudy Giuliani is the biggest name that they have, but he is leaning on his 9/11 history too much. He has proven to be a good leader. Really the republicans have no one. I see purely from a nonpartisan standpoint I see Mit Romney getting the nomination. This coming election is such a critical one yet there is not stand out candidate from either side. When nominations are issued the election is going to get really interesting. Everyone needs to get out and start seeing where everyone stands. This election is very important. Please get informed vote.

I'm so glad to see these complicated election politics being articulated here. I feel as though the Dems do have an advantage in that we have some good candidates. The Repukes have such slim pickings right now it's almost laughable.

I agree, there are really no "super star" candidates on either side of the fence. For the democrats, I've always liked John Edwards, but it seems like the public views him as weak. I love Obama. I love what he stands for on a personal level. I think that candidates do whatever it takes to get elected (well, most). If it were my choice I would give Obama a shot because I think its time for a serious change in this country and I believe that Obama has the guts to run it!!

I am going with Obama, despite the flaws. Your observations are apt, but damn, the rest all suck! He is the only one about anything decent!I have enrolled in his campaign and plan on working for him here. I know he may not win; I rarely endorse people who make it. But I will be in despair because despite his shortcomings, I really think he would make a fine President and he would put good people around him.

Hillary seems fake to me too. She reminds me of those ruthless, catty middle-management types you find in some offices. Every aspect of her being seems as if it's carefully created with smoke and mirrors to project an appearance. I began to notice this during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Hillary never showed signs of being upset. She and Bill seemed to have partly parted ways, yet remained married. Why would they do that? Either you make up OR part ways... unless appearances and a name mean more to you than anything else. Then she packed her carpetbags and moved to NY trying to front like she was from there, and if memory serves, she suddenly "remembered" she had some Jewish heritage when it was convenient. Who knows what else she's done, but that's enough to make her seem fake to me, and shifty. But sadly she still seems better than everyone other than Obama.

Among the weakest of traits I have is politics... but I wish you have the best elected one and capable person because being a superpower, it affects the world as well.

Have a good week ahead.

Did you happen to see the latest Newsweek? Are they endorsing Hillary or what? I don't want to see the Clinton/Bush family take over the executive branch. One article even said that Jeb is the most popular Republican today? WTF! Get me out of here!

On a good note, Barak came to Philly and kicked ass. Philly is Obama turf. He has nothing to worry about here. We love him.

Anne, personally I think she and Bill have some sort of arrangement, similar to the kings and queens of old. She turns a blind eye to his infidelities as long as he helps her get to where she needs to be. I don't think Monika bothered her because of the marital vows; it was the fact that he lied openly and looked like an ass. He did humiliate his cabinent--loyal people who went on the line for him. By the same token, he lied and nobody died.

my thought is- both sides are so incredibly disappointed and jaded that there will be a lower voter turnout than usual.

Neither side has a candidate who shines in the light. It is a very long time before the next election and a lot will happen between now and then.
C-dell, congrats on your classes.
Take care brother and have a great weekend.

In this last election, less than 30% turned out nation wide. I think that there will be a higher percentage voting because it is a Presidential election and because of the two "biggest" issues that we face right now: war on terror and our borders / immigration.
A lot can and will change between now and then, but I have faith that America will wake up and actually Vote. I would love to see 65% again.

I think voter turnout will probably be good not only because of the war and immigration issues, but because there is a very real possibility of the first black or female U.S. President in history. Many want that to happen, and some want to prevent it from happening. To some people, color and gender are unimportant; but some minorities and women see this as an opportunity to prove that their group is just as capable to lead (or mess the country up) as well as anyone else.

i guess i am just hoping that people want to take back the constitution. i am hoping that people want to save the planet. i am hoping that people want to see change where folks who aren't white are treated equally and women are not seen as property. perhaps i am asking too much of america.

Betmo is asking what we should all demand. Call me idealistic, but I think we might pull it off this time. People are so sick of Bush.

As a New York resident, I would take serious issue with the thought of Giulliani being a good leader. His tenure in New York was quite devisive, and he leaned very heavily on his Wall Street and PBA endorsements.
