Question of the Day

I have seen many tragedies in my life. I have often seen the reactions to those tragedies. People who were truely were horrified by what they saw. Also I saw people who seemed to enjoy seeing the pain that was caused by the terrible acts. Humans are a varied people. This post deal with what the true nature of man is.

Question: Do people have a deep need for good to exist in the world or do they just want it?

Please post your opinions.

I think they have a deep need. It is built within us to have compassion. Even the people that don't give handouts to street beggars question their reason for not giving. But, God said charity is a basic tenant of life.

I think it depends upon the person. I don't have a "deep need" to believe that people are good. I think most people are and do the right thing most of the time.
But there are those that are not "good" and wish the worse to happen to those that don't agree with them and their opinions.
I hope that people start to treat others as they would want to be treated themselves and to stop thinking about "me" and start thinking about the person next to you.

I treat everybody with the expectation that they want good. There are exceptions to that rule, the people who bring attitude. I treat them with the attitude they brought.

Interpersonal relationships are complex and varied. I am complex and varied. I like to think of myself as a good person. And, among good people, I am. I also deal with bad people. It's business.

The thing is, I can't make the bad people good, I don't have time, nor inclination. It's just business.

I have to be good wherever I can, to die without regrets. I frame my dealings from that viewpoint: What will I regret on my deathbed? The bottom line is: This is MY one life. If I allow others to tell me what to do with it, I will regret it. I have one shot here on this Earth, and I will decide who to hate, what to wear, what I like... etc.

I think all discussions can be footnoted with he fact that we all get just one shot here. This moment I'm spending here, is not recallable. I chose my path. I won't regret it. I hope all my choices I won't regret.

I have never regretted helping another person.

I am not "saved." Jesus is NOT my savior. And I won't be going to hell because he isn't.

I am a good person. The millions of Chinese good people who aren't saved aren't going to Hell either.

Some people, like sister celtic, offer you the choice of their book or eternal damnation. Muslims believe hey will attain a Heaven of 72 (?) virgins. I ask you, is 72 virgins enough? WE're talking ALL ETERNITY here. 72 virgins, in idealistic dreaming is a 72 day supply. Far from an eternity of happiness.

As are all promises of reward after death. All reward God offers us is here and now. He gave us life. We are to enjoy it. Now. Report back later. THAT is God's plan for us, in my opinion. Why else did He give me free will, if not to use it, and check shit out as I am compelled? Bring back the report less travelled.

That's my bottom line.

Peace out.

hi again i came back for look...your comment from k.b. about me was well her/his God given free will to make the choice. we aren't robots. some people would like to put God in a box and have him come down to where they are at... rather than go to him where he is! and free will is our choice...gosh the bible is full of so many wonderful things and i noticed that kb calls it filled with damnation hell eternal..i would hate to think that the joy peace and love in my life is reflected by such horrid destruction and in vain (damnation) I serve the Lord out of thankfulness and pure love... oh well i have had a totally diffrent experience with chosing life through Christ and living it to the fullest...hope your doing well...

I may be naive...but I cling to what Anne Frank said in the depth of WWII...that all people are basically good. I wonder if she thought this as she went to her death in the gas chamber? Free will is the human condition...good and evil is choice of the will. Every religion embraces this premise...I think everyone struggles with it because we are human.
